Case Reassessment

We aim to help investigators handle evidence correctly from the start, but situations may arise when items must be rechecked or replaced. On this page you will find general rules for case reassessment and evidence corrections within Criminal Case.

General Conditions

Case reassessment and evidence corrections are carried out in accordance with current forensic and investigative protocols. Evidence may be resubmitted if it has not been compromised and its integrity and documentation are preserved.

For compromised items or procedural errors on our side, we always strive to resolve the situation as quickly as possible by reprocessing the evidence or updating the case records.

Evidence Eligible for Reassessment

  • Standard evidence items that were not used in analysis and show no signs of contamination or tampering.
  • Forensic tools and accessories with full equipment sets and, if possible, original sealed containers.
  • Samples in unopened bags, vials or evidence tubes, provided proper storage conditions were maintained.

In each case, the officer will visually assess the condition of the evidence and help determine whether reassessment or replacement is the correct procedure.

Evidence That Cannot Be Reassessed

  • Evidence collected or prepared specifically for a unique case (for example, individually processed samples or custom forensic analyses).
  • Items with significant signs of use, contamination, tampering, or mechanical damage that compromise investigative integrity.
  • Evidence with broken seals or compromised packaging, if this affects the validity or chain of custody.

If you are unsure whether an item can be reassessed, please contact us by phone or email before bringing it to the investigation office.

Reassessment Procedure

  • Contact our officer and briefly describe the situation: which evidence was submitted, when it was collected, and why you need reassessment or replacement.
  • Bring the evidence and documentation to the investigation office, or coordinate another transfer method if the items were collected at an active crime scene.
  • Our team will verify the integrity of the evidence and review the documents, after which reassessment, replacement or additional processing will be carried out.

Record Adjustments

Case record adjustments are completed using the same documentation method that was used during the original submission whenever possible. If the evidence was logged in person, corrections are issued at the investigation office. If documentation was submitted digitally or through an agency, updated records are returned accordingly.

The timeframe for updating records depends on the internal verification process, but in most cases it takes from 1 to 7 business days after the necessary documents are reviewed.

Compromised Evidence and Complaints

If you notice signs of contamination, tampering, or discrepancies between the evidence submitted and the items returned, please contact us as soon as possible. Attach photos, describe the issue, and keep all original seals, labels and containers.

We will review the situation together with the forensic department or involved officers and propose a solution: reprocessing of the evidence, replacement of compromised items, or correction of case documentation. Our goal is to ensure that all evidence handled within Criminal Case meets investigative standards and supports your case accurately.
